Introducing Our Functional Map: An Intuitive Guide to Sophisticated Accounting
Published:24 July 2024
Aedon.Accounting has unveiled a new “functional map” designed to demystify our complex suite of tools in a delightfully intuitive way. Reminiscent of a certain famous transport map, this creative layout helps users navigate the intricate world of accounting with ease. However, any resemblance to that iconic map is purely coincidental.
Paul Foden, CEO of Aedon.Accounting, is excited about this innovative approach. “Our goal is to explain what Aedon.Accounting does, and this map is intended to convey the breadth and complexity of our product in an intuitive and usable way.”
The map is divided into two main sections: the Transactions Layer and the Reporting Layer. The Transactions Layer, represented with various color-coded lines, shows different ways to record accounting activities. Starting on the left, users can track a sales opportunity and see its integration into the sales component of Aedon.Accounting, marked in yellow. The purchases side is highlighted in red, while the central bank function, crucial to any business, is depicted in green.
“Unintentionally, the map naturally reinforces the importance of bank reconciliation,” Paul explains. “It’s the most important control in any business, and all transactions feed into it. The map’s design puts all the key pieces in the right place the first time, and all the linkages are correct. They tell a story and have a relationship with each other.”
Our map also highlights two key integrations: the Salesforce Sales Cloud and Smarterpay. “The integration to the Salesforce Sales Cloud makes it easy to convert a sales opportunity into an invoice,” Paul notes. “And our integration with Smarterpay, marked in purple, handles direct debit mandates, sales invoice payments, and bulk purchase payments.”
Supporting the Transactions Layer is the Reporting Layer. Unique to Aedon.Accounting is our bottom-up reporting dashboards, created using standard Salesforce report chart components. “This allows you to analyse your business at a very granular level,” Paul says. “That’s bottom-up reporting, and it’s unique to us.”
The map also showcases other reporting capabilities, such as HMRC VAT reporting, which concludes with the submission of the report to HMRC. Foden emphasizes the dual nature of the map: “Think of it as two halves—doing and reporting. It’s a useful way to look at the product and shows all the integration points.”
This functional map will be a central feature of Aedon.Accounting’s pitches. “The beauty is in the eye of the beholder,” Paul says. “People will see what’s important to them. Different things will catch different people’s eyes.”
In the competitive landscape of accounting software, Aedon.Accounting stands out, primarily due to our Salesforce platform integration. “This is our superpower,” Paul says. “It makes configuration and bottom-up reporting remarkably easy and incredibly powerful.”
This new functional map shows how businesses can view and manage their accounting processes, making sophisticated tasks simple and intuitive for all users.
