Moving to the 2026 VAT Codes
Updated 30 October 2026
New customers are set up on the 2026 VAT codes, such as TAX-SAL-20 and TAX-PUR-20. If you were set up before them, you keep your current codes, such as S1, P1 or TP20, and nothing changes: your codes, VAT returns and adjustments all work as they do today.
How the two sets of codes work
- Each organisation uses one set of codes, and sees only the codes in that set.
- The VAT return works with both sets, and so do your reports and dashboards.
- Knowledge base articles say when they are written for the 2026 codes. For the current codes, see UK VAT Codes (Tax Codes).
Moving to the 2026 codes
Moving is optional and by request only. To ask, please raise a case. If you move:
- The switch happens on the first day of a VAT year.
- Finish any open documents on your current codes before the switch date.
- Past transactions keep their current codes.
- Supplier and customer defaults, products and recurring templates are remapped to the new codes using the tables below.
- Check your first VAT return on the new codes with your accountant.
